Bill Crampin
BA (Hons) BArch RIBA

Bill was joint founder of the 'Crampin & Pring' arm of CPMG in 1977. He studied at Nottingham University, where he won the 'Schimeld' prize for Architecture in 1970.

After qualifying in 1973, he spent a year in London, in Lord Esher's office, working on several commercial and conservation projects, including the Government commissioned 'York Report' on important historic towns. This was followed by a year in Norwich, working with conservation architects Feilden & Mawson, on housing, universities, and historic buildings. A return to the Midlands heralded a change of project type, and a further time was spent on large scale energy schemes, including Littlebrook 'D' power station, and the natural gas terminal for 'Total' at St Fergus, north of Aberdeen.

Following the formation of Crampin & Pring, the retail and office sectors rapidly became an important centre of commercial and design expertise. This very much became the basis of the future character of the Practice. Transportation projects of all kinds followed, including railway stations and airports.

He held a 'Special Professorship' with Nottingham University for a two-year term.

He sees his main strength as 'the ability to combine high standards of quality and design, with the creation of commercial value.'

Major sectors with which he is currently involved, are as follows:

· Airports- terminals and control towers
· Education- university buildings
· Housing- private sector and special needs
· Offices-IT and HQ buildings
· Rail- stations and transport interchanges
· Retail- shopping centres
· General- large scale urban regeneration, refurbishment and conservation

Bill takes a close interest in large scale planning issues, and sits on many committees involved with the future of the Region. He was also Chair of the environmental 'Groundwork Trust' for a period of three years.

Other interests include flying, music, sailing, golf, cycling, and travelling.
