Studied architecture at Newcastle University and at Leeds University where he won the American Collegiate Schools of Architecture Award. This enabled him to gain experience whilst working in an architects office in Texas and to travel extensively in America, Mexico and Canada.
Following six years with architects Faulkner Brown in Newcastle, he was appointed Associate Director responsible for the London office of Brocklehursts Architects and then joined IBM in London as a Project Manager responsible for major offce, distribution and computer buildings, many of which won major design awards. In 1971 he was made responsible for the £50M IBM HQ project at Portsmouth north harbour.
In 1975 Jack was appointed Chief Architect of the Boots Company in Nottingham. In 1979 he completed the ten week Executive Programme at London Business School, became Head of Design and Construction at Boots and a Director of Boots The Chemists responsible for Boots capital works and maintenance programme in the UK and France.
Jack joined James McArtney Architects in Nottingham as an Equity Director in 1989 and following a merger in 1997 with architect Crampin and Pring became a Director of CPMG architects (formerly Crampin Pring McArtney).
In 1994 Jack was responsible for introducing Quality Assurance to the Practice.
Throughout his career Jack has been active in RIBA and education affairs. He was the first chairman of the joint professional examination board in Nottingham, Leicester and Sheffield Schools of Architecture,

Jack was RIBA Regional Chairman between 1987 to 1989, has been an external examiner at the University of Nottingham and still lectures in Risk Management, QA and Health and Safety. He is also a qualified QA Auditor and Planning Supervisor. In 2006, Jack became Managing Director of CPMG.
