Huntingdon Town Centre
Huntingdon
After winning a design competition in 2003, CPMG were commissioned to masterplan the redevelopment of Huntingdon Town Centre. The project, which is a partnership between Cambridgeshire County Council and Nutbrook Developments, includes the creation of sites for a new combined court building, a central library, offices and a variety of residential accommodation, and will substantially increase the diversity of central Huntingdon. A significant aspect of the study has been to integrate new bus lanes, enhance the existing bus station, and improve traffic junctions and circulation. A restructuring of the pedestrian and cycle facilities is also integral, as part of a strategic drive towards sustainable urban communities.
The masterplan has developed in consultation with the landowners, Local Authority, Highways Authority, Environment Agency, English Heritage and in close consultation with the local community. The masterplan has now been adopted by Huntingdonshire District Council as Interim Planning guidance and the first phase, comprising offices and a Law Court Building is now on site. Phases II and III will include a new Public Library, Public Register Office, housing, offices and the refurbishment of a range of important listed buildings.
