Creating adaptable and innovative spaces for staff and students
Architecture Further & Higher Education
The impact of new technology on pedagogy is also influencing education building design and the rise of Informal, flexible learning spaces has led to a new breed of education environments, whether in new build or ‘adaptive re-use’.
Design in the Further and Higher Education sectors is now as much about creating a small scale community that will cater for work, rest and play as it is developing a functional environment.
Ultimately, “place making” or building a community is now an essential part of creating an environment that students want to apply for, build a life at, and share their success with.
To remain sustainable and meet the growing expectations of student and parents, spaces that cater for life and work need to support both study and social interaction, recognising students as valuable consumers and assets to the success of the higher education sector and the cities within which they live.
