Agri-Informatics, Cranfield University

A specialist facility at Cranfield University, the new Agri-Informatics building houses the UK national soil archive. Support spaces include informatics and sensor laboratories, the map archives, glasshouses, wet laboratory and storage for growth media. The building utilises rammed earth technology to encapsulate the essence of the research programme.

This space is split over two floors, with the soils on Level 00, and the maps on Level 01. The two areas are linked by a double height space, allowing a strong visual connection between floors. The main entrance foyer is conceived as a deep, vertical space - like entering a narrow gorge.
