Barrasford House, Nottingham
A mixed use development, comprising student accommodation on the upper floors, with a retail unit and a private office suite on the ground floor. The proposal site lies on the junction of Goldsmith Street and Wollaton Street in Nottingham city centre, forming the north-west enclosure to the Theatre Square.
The upper floors will be converted to self-contained student studio flats, ranging in size between 19 and 30 square metres. The addition of a two-storey glazed rooftop extension will improve the architectural quality of the existing building, providing a more satisfying resolution at roof level, and allowing it to contribute positively to the city roofscape without introducing excessive height.
The palette of materials has been selected to combine robustness and maintainability with a striking contemporary aesthetic that will integrate well with the existing brickwork whilst providing a contrasting finish.
