Pharos Business Port, Bratislava
This project was a masterplan for a key commercial site located next to Bratislava Airport for developer Hrivis Group. There is 568,000 square metres of office, retail and leisure space and hotels, plus substantial areas of parkland and amenity space.
The masterplan is an expression of the dynamism and excitement of the immediate context, taking its forms from aviation, particularly the shapes of aircraft wings and the road and rail infrastructure that passes through the site.
The built form creates an acoustic barrier to the motorway which is sufficiently broken to enable good visibility of the masterplan’s key elements such as the shopping mall.
Two transport interchanges which directly access the retail and office areas are located at the heart of the project.
Sustainability is carefully considered throughout; the concept is that of a zero waste low energy solution with all waste dealt with on site. It is converted to energy through gasification; the estimated 20,000 tonnes of waste per annum produced by the site can be turned into 10MW of electricity and 40MW of heating and cooling.
