STEM Building, University of Derby

Our designs provide a purpose-built environment for collaboration in the STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The project includes highly specialist research apparatus such as an anechoic chamber and wind tunnel, as well as more traditional workshop, laboratory and office spaces.

The building maximises the potential of a restricted site on the University’s Markeaton Street Campus, setting 4,500m2 of accommodation over four floors with direct links into the surrounding existing buildings. The development creates a new courtyard space, which has been designed to provide a new external environment for both STEM and the wider campus facilities. The BREEAM Very Good project includes photovoltaics for renewable energy generation, and exposed concrete soffits for thermal mass.
