Teesside University Campus Masterplan, Middlesbrough

The successful completion of several projects resulted in being asked to prepare a masterplan for the south-west and central areas of the university’s main Middlesbrough campus. The intention being not to reach a deterministic conclusion, but rather to establish a loose framework within which the university can evolve over the next decade.

The study includes a comprehensive analysis of the successes and failures of the existing urban fabric, and the identification of potential locations for further development.

Indicative design proposals for the identified sites concentrate on the consolidation of the external environment, the establishment of new pedestrian boulevards, a reduction in vehicular traffic and the creation of a series of landscaped event spaces framed by new and old buildings alike. Our visualisation capability supports such proposals with sketch imagery suggesting the potential of buildings and spaces without developing designs in detail.
