The Walks, Huntingdon town centre, Cambridgeshire
A commission to masterplan the regeneration of part of Huntingdon town centre, the project is a partnership between DE Clegg and the landowner, Cambridgeshire County Council.
The design solution is based on a process of close cooperation with many stakeholders including the Huntingdonshire District Council, English Heritage and various local interest groups.
Once adopted as supplementary planning guidance, the plan became the basis for a series of individual projects including a new Combined Justice Centre (a court building), County Council offices, private and affordable housing, a new library and archive centre and conversion of Grade II and II* listed buildings to a register office and apartments. Several buildings on the site have a ‘very good’ Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating.
