Campus Centre Development, De Montfort University
An important and well-valued building at the heart of the campus, the Campus Centre is home to a busy and active Students’ Union. The campus transformation project will see the centre revamped to provide a modern and inspiring environment.
The new Fletcher Complex re-orientates the focus of the campus and houses the new catering facilities. This will allow the Students’ Union to expand to the ground floor of the Campus Centre and occupy a prominent position adjacent to the new public pathway.
A more user-friendly environment has been created thanks to the large space in the centre of the building which links the ground and first floors with a running stair. The ground floor has been opened up to increase light and access. Glazing has been introduced at first floor level allowing connectivity with the newly landscaped Mill Lane.
The Campus Centre is redefined firstly by reinventing the building as a destination that opens horizons through new experiences and greater connections with the new landscaping. We have improved the legibility and accessibility of the award-winning student services to encourage students to socialise, learn and relax. These new spaces promote unplanned encounters and spontaneous collaborations.
