London: Making Our Mark in the Capital
We opened the London office in 2015 on the back of a series of projects secured from our Nottingham base. On the back of a successful MBO in 2011, the business began to consider a second office; London was the clear favourite and so a business development base was secured. We won our first project from the London office in 2016 based on satisfying the selection criteria for relevant experience, in healthcare and residential sectors, as well as local presence. We are currently on our third engagement with the client.
We now have an office of 4 employees; a significant effort when considering that there are numerous well-established architectural practices in London who may have similar numbers of staff. Our whole approach is based on a sustainable business plan, on which supports steady growth rather than a boom and bust approach. We are known in the London market, on the back of the work we have done here in the past and now our visibility networking in the Greater London area.
The Waldrons
Work is due to commence on a new 65-unit residential scheme in the London Borough of Croydon. Planning was obtained in August and pre-commencement conditions discharged this month – work starts on site in January 2018 with a targeted completion planned for May 2019. CPMG is heavily involved in the discharge of the key conditions working closely with the planning department, and will be novated to SP&AJ who have been awarded the construction contract worth in excess of £10m.
Comprising 19 housing association units and 46 private units, the mixture of 1,2 and 3-bed units occupies the site of a long-since demolished building. The site slopes heavily, a constraint that has been turned into an opportunity with respect to vehicular access to a part-subterranean basement.
Northwood and Pinner/Barnes
We're involved in several projects for South West and St Georges Mental Health Trust and also National Health Service Professional Services. The work involves the development of a brief to respond to the disposal of part of the existing NHS owned sites, and the replacement of ageing health facilties with new buildings. The role includes stakeholder engagement, healthcare planning, liaision with the local authorities and attendance at pre-consultation meetings.
We are experienced in the Healthcare sector and our London office has presented the opportunity to take that skillset and apply it in the London market.
Cullesden Road
We have been engaged by a private develop to develop a scheme for an 18-unit scheme in Kelney, Croydon. The brief is for a high-quality apartment scheme that challenges the local context. Involving the demolition of an existing detached property, the proposal responds to the constraints of the site in a positive, if considerate, manner. Utilising a palette of traditional materials in a contemporary manner, the scheme is close to a formal planning application following significant pre-consultation with the London Borough of Croydon.
Alcatel Lucent
Alcatel Lucent manufactures complex electronic systems that boost the signal in undersea fibre optic cables. Manufacturing takes place in highly controlled clean room environments.
We have undertaken the phased redevelopment of Alcatel Lucent’s Greenwich Peninsula site whilst maintaining its operational activities throughout. The design consists of a combination of extensions and reconfiguration and refurbishment. Carried out in 3 phases, the project will complete in early 2018.
