Project Overview
Birmingham Airport wanted to create a bespoke, iconic landmark building with its own identity which would impact on the skyline.
It also needed to address the need to integrate the tower fully with the base building.
The design concept enabled a curving, flowing integrated form to develop with an economy on floor area and an emphasis on form. The design is intended to reflect the wider context of the airport itself.
This emphasis is naturally presented through the need to perch the visual control room (VCR) at a fixed height in order to operate, and the concept attempts to lift and carry this element in an integrated and visually pleasing manner.
