Endoscopy Unit, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham
The newly refurbished and expanded £12.4m Endoscopy Unit at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) represents a major investment in diagnostic care for Nottingham and the wider East Midlands. Designed by CPMG Architects for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), the project delivers a modern, patient‑focused environment that enhances clinical flow, increases capacity and supports high‑quality specialist care.
Enhancing Patient Experience and Clinical Flow
The redevelopment forms part of NUH’s ongoing programme to modernise clinical environments and improve access to diagnostic services. The reconfigured unit provides a smoother, more intuitive journey for patients, from arrival, through procedure, and into recovery, with spatial planning carefully considered to reduce bottlenecks and support wellbeing.
The expansion from two to three procedure rooms increases capacity for complex endoscopic procedures and helps reduce waiting times, strengthening QMC’s role as a regional centre of excellence.
Calm and Efficient Spaces
CPMG’s design approach focused on creating spaces that balance patient comfort with clinical efficiency. The refurbished unit delivers:
- Calming, reassuring environments for patients undergoing sensitive procedures
- Efficient, intuitive layouts that support staff workflow and high‑quality care
- Flexible, future‑ready spaces aligned with NUH’s long‑term diagnostic ambitions
- Compliance with healthcare standards, ensuring safety, privacy, dignity and operational resilience
Material choices, lighting and circulation routes were all developed to create a modern, welcoming environment that reduces anxiety and supports recovery.
Supporting Regional Diagnostic Capacity
The upgraded Endoscopy Unit provides a significantly larger and more modern facility for both patients and staff. With improved flow, increased capacity and enhanced recovery spaces, the redevelopment strengthens QMC’s ability to deliver specialist diagnostic services for Nottingham and neighbouring hospitals across the East Midlands.
CPMG is proud to have contributed to a project that will deliver lasting benefits for patients, staff and the wider community.
