CPMG has marked a major milestone in its international portfolio with the completion of InLong Narada Resort, a luxury holiday destination in Jiangsu Province, China, developed in partnership with one of the country’s leading hotel groups.
Working collaboratively between its UK studios and China base in Hangzhou, the practice transformed a disused quarry into a world-class resort. The masterplan includes a striking reception building, 37 private hilltop villas, a luxury spa, children’s play area and a petting zoo – all designed to blend seamlessly into the dramatic landscape.
Located just two hours west of Shanghai, InLong Narada Resort has been designed to attract both domestic and international visitors. Celebrating the area’s unique setting, the resort sets a new benchmark for sustainable, experience-led tourism in China. The name ‘InLong’ translates to dragon valley, reflecting both the surrounding environment and elements of the design inspiration.

Amy Zhao, urban designer and China manager at CPMG, said: “A key element of the scheme was to create a sustainable development that has minimal impact on the environment. Our designs were developed with eco-friendly principles in mind, while the resort’s facilities were crafted to sit naturally within the landscape.
“The design makes use of the unique landform left from the quarry, with materials reused during construction to reduce waste and minimise the supply chain’s impact. Natural stone sourced from the site was complemented with timber detailing, creating a cohesive and warm architectural language.
“With views of surrounding mountains and a striking blue lake formed from a 100-metre-deep section of the quarry, the buildings not only provide functional luxury but also connect beautifully to their setting.”

CPMG’s relationship with Narada Hotel Group began in April 2022 with the resort’s masterplan. Spanning 530 acres, the project strengthens CPMG’s growing reputation for international design excellence, adding to its diverse overseas portfolio across Georgia, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, and Abu Dhabi.
Richard Flisher, managing director at CPMG, added: “Following the success of our work for the InLong Narada Resort, we’re excited to continue our relationship with Narada Hotel Group and explore new opportunities together.
“Working in China offers both unique opportunities and challenges compared to our European projects. To deliver truly spectacular results, we immerse ourselves in contextual research and adapt our approach to suit each setting. This process enables us to design leisure destinations that stand out as places for rest, relaxation and luxury.”
Jianping Wang, CEO at Narada Hotel Group, said: “We’re delighted with the outcome at InLong Narada Resort. CPMG’s design has allowed us to enhance the guest experience, making the most of the extraordinary landscape and ensuring high-quality amenities for visitors from around the world.”
